Menopause Clinic

For new HRT and complex menopausal symptoms.

Menopause (when your periods stop due to lower hormone levels) and its precursor, Perimenopause (when you have symptoms before your periods stop) can cause symptoms such as anxiety, mood swings, brain fog and hot flushes, all of which can have a big impact on your life, including relationships and work. Our new specialist GP-led Menopause Clinic is designed to provide the time needed for a thorough consultation and offer support during a challenging time.

Who is it for?

Our Menopause Clinic is for patients who are peri-menopausal or struggling with menopause symptoms. If you have not had Hormone Replacement Therapy (or HRT, the main medicine treatment which replaces hormones that are at low levels) before, and you think you may be starting the menopause, this clinic can offer extended consultations and treatments. It is also for patients who may benefit from more specialist advice or prescribing, e.g. if your current HRT regime is not working well for you.

How does it work?

If you have not had HRT before and you think you may be starting the menopause, you can book an appointment directly via the Reception team at your GP practice or by using their online appointment request form. If you are already on treatment and feel that it is not working, your GP can book you in.

The initial 30-minute consultation can be either in-person or by telephone (please specify when booking), and you will be offered one follow-up consultation before being referred back to your own GP for management and repeat prescribing.

Prior to your initial consultation, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire to map out your symptoms. If you choose a telephone consultation, you should also have an up-to-date blood pressure reading, weight, and waist circumference. If you do not have a blood pressure monitor at home, all our practices have a blood pressure machine in their waiting area, or you can visit your local pharmacy.
